CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM (CBCS)
The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is an innovative instructional package developed to suit the needs of Indian Students keeping pace with the developments in Higher Education in the light of liberalization and globalization of our economy. One of the greatest merits of this CBCS system is the flexibility it offers to the students to choose from variety of interdisciplinary elective courses according to their interest and aptitude, to enhance their individual career plans.
The unique feature of the Choice Based Credit System is that the syllabi for the core and elective subjects are updated every year to the changing needs of the market in comparison to the conventional system. This system provides opportunities to promote interdisciplinary approach in mastering an area of study. Further it offers greater autonomy to the teaching departments and eliminates compartmentalization of knowledge. Many core subjects are designed by cross-fertilization of different subjects.
This CBCS system provides greater opportunity to students to prepare themselves for competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, TNPSC, MNC’s and Banks. Another important feature of this system is that departments identify the student advisors from among the teachers to help the students to choose electives, in taking internal assessment, assistance in getting scholarships and shaping the over all personality of the students and career guidance. The advisors take care of the individual students allotted to them.
